'Activist' Judge Who Blocked Trumps Spending Freeze Is On The Board Of NGO Getting Millions From Gov

The so called 'activist' judge who blocked President Donald Trump's federal funding freeze - Judge John McConnell - failed to disclose his role at Crossroads Rhode Island while ruling against President Trump’s plan to freeze billions in federal spending.

Records show that McConnell appears to be currently serving on the Board of Directors for the non-profit NGO Crossroads Rhode Island, where he was previously the Chair of the Board and is still currently listed as the Chair-Emeritus.

His non-profit received $128M in government funding during his 18-year board tenure, including $42M from 2020-2023.

According to Form 990, Crossroads Rhode Island received over $18.6 million in government funding in 2023 alone.

That accounted for over half of its $30 million of revenue.

Rhode Island, a plaintiff in the case, already sent his organization $2.9M in 2025.

When Judge McConnell ruled against the Trump Administration and required federal taxpayers to continue funding the State of Rhode Island, it seems that he also required continued funding for his pet “non-profit,” Crossroads Rhode Island.

Federal law requires judges to recuse themselves when their impartiality might be questioned.
This is the same Judge that donated $700K to Democrat Campaigns in a move Republicans claim essentially 'purchased' his lifetime appointment to the bench.
