USAID House Hearing

Excerpts from the first part of the senate hearing.

USAID is criticized by the Republicans for funding drag shows and gender surgery (although likely it was the State Department that funded these in foreign countries).

Both sides consider that USAID's purpose is for US security. Winning international good will is also part of the objective.

How US security should be achieved appears by consensus of the US house of representatives to be by minimising Russia and China's political and economic influence in countries other than their own.
The consensus appears to be that the members of the US House of representatives consider Russia and China to be a threat to security of the United States.

To me, I do not see Russia as being a great threat to the United States. China potentially could in theory be a threat to the United States, but it seems to me, if it is left alone, there is little evidence that China will try to militarily invade the US.

Therefore the contention the US has with Russia and China is the control of international trade and resources, and forming political alliances that may not be friendly towards the economic interests of the US.
