Origins (16th century): The settlement of the area where Recife is now located began in the 16th century, shortly after the arrival of the Portuguese in Brazil. The place was strategic because it was a natural port, ideal for the flow of sugar produced in the mills of Olinda (the first village in the region). The initial settlement was known as "Arrecife dos Navios" due to the coral reefs that protected the port.

Development under Dutch Rule (17th century): The city experienced a major development under Dutch rule (1630-1654), when Maurice of Nassau modernized the city, building bridges, canals, and buildings.

Centennial Streets: The centennial streets of Recife are living witnesses of its history. Many of them follow the original layout of the colonial and Dutch periods, reflecting the city's adaptation to its peculiar geography, with rivers, islands and mangroves. Walking through these streets is like traveling back in time, observing the architecture, churches and historic buildings that tell the story of the city.
