The room that was inspected - 6 feet wide and 12 feet deep – contained 36,236 gold bars.

In 2017, the U.S. Treasury Secretary and other officials visited the Fort Knox vaults to allow a group of journalists and a Congressional delegation to view the gold reserves. This was the second time since 1974 that the vaults were opened to non-authorized personnel. The visits were prompted by rumors that the gold reserves had been depleted.
