Incredible Bull Elk Fight Filmed in Oregon in 1993...

This is Bull Elk fight I just happened to catch on the way home from elk hunting. There are usually two or three elk herds there on the reserve at this time of year. This day was a little different. I had been videoing at the east end of the park because there was an old bull I had been watching for a couple of weeks. Not because I wanted to harvest him but because he was limping. I had been watching this bull because he was limping around for a few weeks now. I'll call him Gimpy...
The traffic noise is horrible because it's a national elk view park that is suppose to be protected. Well, it didn't protect these two bulls because later in the year during rifle season some poacher killed both of them one night.
This reserve is right on Hi way 38 just east of Reedsport about 2 miles and the elk are use to lots of people stopping to watch them. That's also the reason for so much road traffic...
This little bull was looking for a mate and little did he know he would be Instrumental in the outcome of this video. Gimpy isn't to worried about him though. Then here comes the trouble maker.. remember the little bull at the start???
The big bull keeps herding his harem and here comes Gimpy because his herd had joined the other herd... ya see the problem here is there are at least three other bulls with several younger ones trying to cut cows out of the herd. Business is picking up... The fight is on... My camera was getting really low on battery by now because of all the filming before... Matter of fact the battery went dead just as the fight ended but stay tuned for a sneak peak at my next video....

The Bureau of Land Management maintains a series of pastures along Oregon Highway 38 and the Umpqua River that are a year-round residence for a herd of 60-100 Roosevelt elk. Elk are visible almost every day of the year! A main viewing area, with an interpretive kiosk and restrooms, offers visitors the chance to learn about the elk and the site’s history. Several pull-outs along the three miles of Highway 38that border the viewing area offer excellent photo opportunities.
