When I was flying somewhere over AFRICA during a long dark night, I experienced some severe St. Elmo's Fire, "displayed" on my Cockpit Window, a galactic act.

St. Elmo's Fire is a weather phenomenon that occurs on airplane windows when the aircraft flies through highly charged atmospheric conditions, such as thunderstorms or intense weather disturbances. It appears as a bluish or violet glow, caused by the ionization of air molecules surrounding the aircraft.

This occurs because the airplane, especially the metal body and its edges (like the wings or cockpit windows), can accumulate static electricity when moving through electrically charged clouds or storms. When the electric field becomes strong enough, it causes the surrounding air to ionize, leading to the eerie, glowing discharge seen on the plane’s exterior.

St. Elmo’s Fire is not dangerous, and although it looks dramatic, it doesn't affect the airplane's safety or systems. Historically, it was often seen by sailors on the masts of ships and believed to be a good omen. Today, it’s a fascinating visual display that pilots and passengers sometimes witness during flight.
