Harvey Weinstein Sues Brother, Executives Over $45M Loan, Alleging Fraud and Plotting His Downfall

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has filed a lawsuit against his brother, Bob Weinstein, and former executives of The Weinstein Company, accusing them of deceiving him into guaranteeing a $45 million loan in 2016. Weinstein claims the funds were misappropriated for personal gain while leaving him solely responsible for the debt. His lawyer, Imran Ansari, alleged that company insiders conspired to undermine Weinstein to seize control of the financially troubled company, which went bankrupt in 2018 amid his sexual misconduct scandal.

The lawsuit alleges that Bob Weinstein withdrew $6 million from company accounts under false pretenses, and former COO David Glasser approved $5 million in excessive bonuses and paid his father $1 million without a legitimate business reason. Weinstein asserts these actions drained the company of $12 million, leading to insolvency and default on the AI International Holdings loan.

AI International had sued Weinstein and company affiliates for defaulting on the loan after his 2017 dismissal as co-chairman. Bob Weinstein and Glasser reportedly settled their share of the debt for $15 million, leaving Harvey Weinstein liable for the remaining $30 million plus interest.

Weinstein seeks relief from financial liability, punitive damages for fraud and misconduct, and coverage of his legal fees. This lawsuit unfolds as Weinstein awaits a retrial in New York on sex crime charges after his 2020 conviction and 23-year sentence were overturned due to trial errors.
