AGENT X11: EP: 133: TRUE CRIMES EVENING EDITION: GUEST: LAURA RAU

In this episode we examine the case of the death of Laura Rau's father, Bob Rau.

Bob Rau was born into a working class family of 9 children. At 23 Bob received a scholarship to Whittier College where he met his first wife Eleanor in 1962.

Bob began in corporate as an aerospace executive becoming a Senior VP at Parker Hannifin. in 1979, he an Eleanor divorced and he married his second wife Mercedes Baker, in 1980.

Throughout Bob's career he began to amass a substantial fortune. He spent years living in a sprawling 3,5 million dollar estate in Orange Country, CA traveling the world with his second wife Mercedes.

In 2017, Mercedes, who had dementia, finally passed. Bob was alone for the first time in 60 years.

While Mercedes was in the nursing home Francine Coppella met him at a restaurant known for younger women seeking "sugar daddies", wealthy older men who would take care of them.

It wasn't long before Coppola moved into Bob's sprawling estate, despite the protests and warnings from Bob's close friens.

Coppolla systematically isolated Bob from family and friends and fired his long time housekeeper, sewing the seeds of discontent between the housekeeper.

Rau's children claimed the Coppola took possession of their father's phone and cut him off from the texts from his children, and at one time pretended to be Bob, texting them.

After Bob was hospitalized, on May 1, 2018, Coppola had talked Bob into marriage, without a prenup. On May 14, 2018, Bob changed his will leaving the bulk of his entire estate to Coppola, his wife of two weeks to the exclusion of his five children.

Nine months later Bob Rau was dead. There was no autopsy. There is ensuing litigation which we will discuss in our part two next week.
