Understanding our Melchizedekian Priestly Pedigree-Part 2 : Abram's Melchizedek

Today, we continue our journey into the enigmatic figure of Melchizedek, focusing on Avram’s (Abraham’s) encounter with this mysterious king-priest. This is Part 2 of our series, "Understanding Our Melchizedekian Priestly Pedigree."

In Part 1, we explored the historical, spiritual, and eschatological roles of Melchizedek, as mentioned in Genesis 14 and Hebrews 7. We delved into the historic encounter between Avram and Melchizedek, King of Salem, who brought forth bread and wine, blessed Avram, and praised Al Elyon (God Most High) for delivering Avram's enemies into his hands. This encounter sets the stage for understanding the Royal Melchizedekian Priestly Order.

Abraham’s Encounter with Melchizedek

Genesis 14:17-21 records Avram’s encounter with Melchizedek following Avram's decisive victory over Chedorlaomer’s Federation of Kings and his rescue of Lot. This victory was significant, as it involved defeating a powerful federation that had wreaked havoc throughout the region.

Upon Avram's return, the new king of Sodom met him in the Valley of Shaveh. Melchizedek, King of Salem and Priest of Al Elyon, brought out bread and wine, blessed Avram, and praised Al Elyon for delivering Avram's enemies into his hands. Avram, in turn, gave Melchizedek a tithe of all the spoils.

The Significance of Melchizedek

Melchizedek is described as both a king and a priest, serving Al Elyon. This dual role is significant, as it highlights the consolidation of political and religious authority in one individual, similar to the Pharaohs of Egypt. However, unlike the Pharaohs, Melchizedek served only Al Elyon.

The encounter between Avram and Melchizedek has profound implications for understanding the eternal priesthood linked to our Master and Savior, Yahoshua HaMashiyach. As we continue this series, we will explore the deeper spiritual and eschatological aspects of this eternal priesthood and its relevance to our salvation and covenant relationship with the Almighty.

Practical Implications for Believers

1. Righteousness and Covenant Relationship: Avram’s encounter with Melchizedek teaches us the importance of righteousness and maintaining a covenant relationship with the Almighty.
2. Royal Priesthood: As believers, we are called to be a royal priesthood, following the example of Melchizedek and Yahoshua HaMashiyach.
3. Blessings and Praise: Like Melchizedek, we should continually render blessings and praise to Yehovah and honor His anointed ones.
