(Bill Gates with his tail between his legs) Smoothing things over with President Trump
In a clear attempt to rebuild bridges with the new administration, Bill Gates, the tech magnate known for his philanthropy, had a three-hour dinner with President Donald Trump just before he took office. This meeting is notable not only for its length but because, according to Gates, it's more face-to-face time than he had with former President Joe Biden during his entire presidency. Gates has expressed being "impressed" by Trump, which has raised eyebrows among those closely watching political and business dynamics.
During an interview, Gates shed some light on the topics discussed over that extended dinner. His priorities when speaking with Trump were clear: global health, with a specific focus on diseases like HIV and polio. Gates highlighted the achievements made in these areas, recalling how international programs and efforts have dramatically reduced child mortality and improved quality of life in developing countries. "We've saved tens of millions of lives," Gates stated, emphasizing the impact of public health initiatives like HIV medication distribution and malaria nets.
Gates didn't just celebrate alleged past achievements; he took the opportunity to urge Trump to continue and expand these efforts, focusing on innovation to develop new "vaccines" and treatments. "We still need some 'vaccines'," he mentioned, indicating an ongoing commitment to global health that he hopes the new administration will share.
Gates' tone during the interview was one of conciliation and hope, suggesting that his conversation with Trump was constructive. However, for conservatives, this meeting might also be seen as Gates' opportunism, facing numerous conflicts due to his allegedly medicinal activities in pursuit of his so-called 'vaccines', no longer under the shield of impunity that President Biden supposedly provided.
Just two weeks after Trump took office, Gates appears submissive and admiring regarding the alignment of their discussion with what he's seeing in the new president's political actions. While it's early to draw definitive conclusions, Gates' willingness to work with Trump is an indicator of his pragmatism and submission to reality: Donald Trump won.
