Human-powered copter bigger than a Boeing 737. Aerovelo, a team of students and alumni from the University of Toronto designed the Atlas helicopter. Built to push the limits of human-powered flight. The Atlas spans 154 feet slightly larger than a Boeing 737. It features four massive rotors connected to a bicycle frame. Pedaling powers all four rotors at the same time, generating lift and allowing the rider to hover. In 2013, Atlas won the Sikorsky Challenge and took home the $250,000 prize. It flew for 64 seconds, reaching an altitude of 9.8 feet. Since then, Aerovelo has shifted focus to human-powered speed records and transportation innovation. There are no current updates for Aerovelo or Atlas. Would you fly a pedal-powered copter?
