Ogre scary giants - Ogre mini documentary

Ogres are fearsome, human-like creatures of mythology and fantasy, known for their enormous size, brute strength and often grotesque appearance. They originate from European fairy tales and symbolise menace and unpredictability. The term ‘ogre’ is probably derived from the Latin ‘Orcus’ (god of the dead).
Compared to other giants, such as trolls or cyclops, ogres are more ambivalent: Although they are often portrayed as stupid and voracious, they sometimes display a surprising cunning.
In fantasy worlds, ogres often serve as powerful adversaries, but their portrayal today ranges from monstrous villains to tragic loners. They reflect human fears of the ‘stranger’, but also the possibility of rediscovering supposed enemies. Thus fiends remain fascinating symbols - between horror and empathy, myth and modernity.
