Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 9 wickets in 2nd Test match at Galle. White washed Sri Lanka by 2-0.

5th Day of 2nd Test at Galle Dt:- 9th February, 2025.
In this match Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first Sri Lanka scored 257 runs only. Kusal Mendis top scored with 85 not out runs, Dinesh Chandimal made 74 runs.
Mitchell Starc, Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon took 3 wickets each and one wicket was taken by Travis Head.
Australia in reply scored 414 runs and got crucial first innings lead of 157 runs. The highlight of the innings was the 36th International Test ton of 131 runs by Steven Smith and 2nd test hundred of 156 runs.
Usman Khawaja made 36 runs and Beau Webster 31 runs.
Prabath Jayasurya took 5 wickets. Three wickets were taken by Nishan Peiris and two wickets by Ramesh Mendis.
Sri Lankan batting again failed in their 2nd innings and were all out on 231 runs thus giving a small target of 75 runs to Australia to win.
Dimuth Karunaratne playing his last innings of his career could score only 14 runs. Angelo Mathews top scored with 76 runs and Kusal Mendis made 50 runs.
Mathews Kuhnemann and Natan Lyon took 4 wickets each and two wickets were taken by Beau Webster.
Chasing target of 75 runs to win Australia made 75 runs for the loss of one wicket only in 17.4 overs and won the match by 9 wickets.
Travis Head was the only batsman out caught by Kusal Mendis of the bowling of Prabath Jayasurya and made 20 runs.
Usman Khawaja remained not out on 27 runs with Marnus Labuschagne not out on 26 runs.
The first test was won by Australia by an innings and 242 runs and thus white washed Sri Lanka in the two match series by 2-0.
Australia won the test series in Sri Lanka after 2011.
Alex Carey got the Player of Match award and Steven Smith Player of the Series award.
