i. This section should come after D&C 3, aggravating. Question of date--one of out of place in D&C.
ii. JS Flaws (never told you perfect) Issue of church critics: One day in quorum, had an instructor say we should talk about JS's faults. We do discuss these things. But what does it tell you about someone who needs  to "feed on the faults" of others? tear down tall people? Never discuss your own faults? In a deep fashin, not the flippant, “Lord knows I’m imperfect ...”
iii. Hugh Nibley: Criticizing the Brethren
iv. Plot:
1. Take original manuscript or forge a new one, and change the words, so when BOM published say that there were differences, a contradiction, so JS making up things
2. Don't retranslate
3. JSM Ch 4. has 1830 preface, borrows language from revelation
4. v. 41-45, directions seem confusing, since don't have plates. Scholarship, not doctrine, suggests translate BOM, then after Moroni 10, translate text from the small plates and put it at the beginning

i. This revelation is like a blessing of counsel to Hyrum Smith, May 1829, 11 months before the reorganization of church.

1. Good desire, but timing issue.

1. Yes, JS made mistakes, but he was forgiven. Can you forgive him?
ii. Waiting for callings
1. Ordained a HP at 46. Same age, my mission president had been bishop, member of stake presidency, and a return mission president . What did that do to me? Awkward situations where old than leaders, and several--many times--would have done things differently if I had been a HP. Certainly not feel anguish and guilt over times had to report leaders up the telephone pole
2. Point for both me and HS, lift where you stand. Use agency within priesthood and revelatory limitations
a. Elder:
i. Served FT mission
ii. Learned a 3rd language
iii. Graduated from college
iv. Published a book
v. did normal duties of discipleship. tithing and temple attendance, voting, etc.
vi. reading
1. teachings of presidents of church
2. All Gen Con talks (CHC, HC, JD)
vii. If just given one talent, have to magnify it best you can
ultimately, being exalted more important than being a HP; being a bishop, or temple president is not essential to exaltation, but righteousness is, and Christ is--and that's the point
