Women of the Resistance: Oscar-nominated filmmaker Farah Nabulsi

In 2024, Reason2Resist launched a new initiative to highlight the immense and under-reported contributions of women to the struggle for self-determination. We called this new series of interviews "Women of the Resistance".

In our latest instalment of Women of the Resistance, Dimitri Lascaris speaks with Palestinian-British filmmaker Farah Nabulsi.

Born, raised and educated in London, Farah began her career as an institutional equity stockbroker. She ended up with a CFA designation at JP Morgan Chase before moving on to build a children-focused business that she ran for 10 years. In 2015, she started working in the film industry.

Farah is now an Academy Award-Nominated and BAFTA Award-Winning filmmaker who writes, directs and produces fiction films inspired by socially relevant themes.

The PRESENT, her directorial debut, which she also co-wrote and produced, premiered at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2020 and won the coveted Audience Award for Best Film. It went on to win over 50 International Film Festival Jury and Audience Awards, a BAFTA Award and an Oscar Nomination.

Her newest film, The TEACHER, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. Commencing in April 2025, The Teacher will be shown in cinemas throughout North America and in some European nations. You can learn more about The Teacher here: https://theteacher.film/.
