Step into Indonesia in 1956 with *A House, a Wife, a Singing Bird, Rajuan Alam*, a captivating film inspired by an ancient Japanese folk saying: "A man's happiness depends upon a knife, house, horse, wife, and singing bird." Directed by Miriam Bucher, this joint production between the U.S. Information Service (USIS) and Produksi Film Negara (PFN) offers a rich portrayal of Indonesian traditions and the nation's successful fight against malaria, achieved with U.S. cooperation.

The story follows Amin, a young villager who tries to build a life in the city but returns home disheartened. Back in his village, he reunites with Marlina, his future bride. However, their union is delayed when Marlina falls ill with malaria. Only after she recovers are they able to marry, symbolizing hope and restoration.
