Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele in San Salvador.

Secretary Rubio and President Bukele concluded a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ (MOU) on civil nuclear cooperation, which was signed by the Secretary and El Salvador's Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco hours later.

Multiple agreements were reached to combat the waves of illegal mass migration currently destabilising the entire region. President Bukele agreed to repatriate all Salvadoran members of the ‘MS-13’ gang who are in the US illegally. He also promised to accept and imprison violent illegal immigrants, including members of the Venezuelan ‘Tren de Aragua’ gang, as well as criminal illegal immigrants from any country. And in an extraordinary gesture never before made by any country, President Bukele offered to house dangerous US criminals, including US citizens and legal residents, in his jails.
