Veteran Suicide: You Are Not Alone and We Can End It | The Rob Maness Show EP 474

America’s veterans have traveled many tough and dangerous paths in our service to our country. We, as a community, have struggled for many years to end the tragedy of “22 a day” suicides with very little impact on that number, and as you just heard, there is believed to be an alarming surge to upwards to as many as 44 veteran suicides a day now. We do however have individual successes and maybe that is the answer, there is no common solution, but we have to create millions of individual solutions. That is why you see veterans starting groups like the one highlighted in our opening, CheckAVet, helping one veteran at a time. All of America is pulling for us and now President Trump is moving veterans’ suicide to the top of his priority list. We all look forward to seeing the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs, former Congressman Dough Collins, wade into this challenge immediately. My guest today is author and retired US Army SSG Robert J. Quayle III. Robert has a unique back- ground as he served in the army twice, from 1983 to 1992 and again at the age of forty-three, when the economy col- lapsed from 2008 to 2013. Following his first enlistment, he began a career in finance and banking, working various positions such as an insurance agent, branch manager, business banking officer, loan officer, and financial adviser. Robert found himself on a dark trail that nearly led to his own suicide but was thankfully able to avert that tragedy. One of the positive results of his recovery is his book titled Bobby, There Is Always Light at the End of the Tunnel, written with the hope of preventing at least one suicide.
