Trump directed the FBI to re-open its background investigation of Kavanaugh on Friday, the day after Kavanaugh and Ford testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ford has accused Kavanaugh of groping her and trying to take off her clothes without her consent while the two were at in high school in 1982. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

"They have free reign, they can do whatever they have to do, whatever it is that they do. They'll be doing things we have never even thought of," Trump told reporters Saturday. "And hopefully at the conclusion everything will be fine."

Trump said he thinks the FBI investigation has the chance to reveal a lot. "I would like to find out as part of it who leaked the papers," he said, referring to Ford's initial letter telling her story, which was leaked to reporters before Ford had decided whether to come forward publicly.

The investigation, which was opened at the behest of Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., could be "a blessing in disguise," Trump said.
