On January 27, 2025, Martin Olive, co-owner of The Vapor Room cannabis dispensary in San Francisco, was shot six times at point-blank range in an unprovoked attack outside his store. The assailant, identified as 34-year-old Cheasarak Chong, approached Olive on an e-bike, dismounted, and opened fire without any prior interaction. Surveillance footage captured Chong pulling out a handgun and firing multiple rounds at Olive from close range.

Despite sustaining six gunshot wounds, Olive survived the attack. He was hospitalized for six nights and has since been discharged, with doctors expecting a mostly full recovery. In a social media post, Olive expressed gratitude for the support he received during his recovery.

After the shooting, Chong retreated to his nearby apartment, leading to a standoff with police. Following unsuccessful negotiation attempts, Chong was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers. Investigators recovered multiple firearms from his apartment.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, as there was no prior interaction between Olive and Chong. Friends and community members have rallied to support Olive during his recovery.
