Make sure your ship is balanced and have proper thrusters and proper Solar Power ( energy ). You can build Batteries as well. Don't forget to have Cargo just in case. Everything else is subjective to you.

Make sure you find a MINER CAPTAIN if you want more ore yields.

If you can't find a MINER Captain, get out of the sector then come back later and see if one shows up.
