Old Timer: Gap Pucci

Gap Pucci is not someone Randy ever met. But as he was growing up, and as an adult, he’d heard about Gap as an outfitter in the Gros Ventre [pronounced ˌɡroʊ ˈvɑːnt / groh-VAHNT] out of Jackson, WY.

In January of 2024 Cowboy State Daily, a WY digital news agency, ran an article about Gap, and it mentioned, at the time, the two books he’d written.

The first one was available at our local library, “We Married Adventure”. Both Randy and Cathy, reading it, felt like it was exactly like listening to stories told to us by many of the old timers we’ve known all the years. It was like listening to an old and dear friend as he told us his stories.
As Randy grew up guiding and was friends with so many outfitters and guides, he felt such a deep connection to the stories Gap told.
And we couldn’t help but admire his strength, honesty, tenacity and work ethic.
At the time the books weren’t available on Amazon or any other source we could find.
Then in Oct of 2024 we were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Gap.

In the story it mentioned that his third book proof had just reached Gap, the night before he’d died, but he’d not had a chance to read it.
His daughters, in honoring their Dad, wanted to be sure it was published. Cathy was able to contact Gap’s youngest daughter, Teresa Pucci-Haas, to inquire about Gap’s books. Through Teresa, Cathy was able to order all three books and surprised Randy with them for Christmas.
We have devoured the books. The stories just get better and better.
This is a small tribute to the life of Gap Pucci.
