COLONIAL DEMONS WON'T DIE: The Origins of M23 Rebels in the Congo

News headlines have reported on the constant conflicts that have affected the Dem. Rep. of the Congo for decades. It is estimated that as many as 5.4 million Congolese have died in this 64-year-old crisis with 4.6 million displaced people of the two Eastern provinces at the heart of the fighting. Today we reveal how this was deliberately set in motion at the Berlin Conference of 1884-85 in order to divide and conquer powerful Nilotic tribes that had settled across the vast Great Lakes region.
