Originally published on Dec 26, 2024.
The indigenous population of New Zealand is starting to challenge government policy and claiming their space in the foreign policy world as well. A lot of things are about to change for the small Pacific nation.
Dr. Garrick Cooper is an Associate Professor at the Aotahi School of Maori and Indigenous Studies of Canterbury University in Christ Church, New Zealand.
Garrick studies ‘decoloniality’, which includes understanding the ways in which coloniality reproduces and sustains itself and maintains the interests of dominant groups in society and how we might subvert those processes.
