ISRAEL’S Bootlickers PICK A FIGHT With The WRONG PEOPLE!
Right, so has Benjamin Netanyahu found the answer to his how the heck do I resume atrocities in Gaza problem when I need a good excuse and I still have a shortage of troops?
Well fortunately for him, it seems he’s found some volunteers, the sort of people who gleefully shout how high every time Israel says jump and are doing so even now despite the West Bank getting Gazafied, their own chunk of Palestine so to speak, I do of course mean the Palestinian Authority. As part of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Israel is supposed to clear out, but not wishing to relinquish control of assets such as the Philadelphi Corridor, the border between Gaza and Egypt, the Palestinian Authority are more than happy to do so and more than happy to take on Hamas as the 16 year long bad blood between the PA and their election dodging leader Mahmood Abbas and Hamas, who they lost the last election to looks set to peak to the point now that the PA will carry on fighting Hamas on Israel’s behalf, their reputation as bootlickers for the apartheid state a well earned one still.
Right, so as you might be aware, the US have had their special envoy to the Middle East, the billionaire Steve Witkoff doing the rounds in Israel and Saudi Arabia before that and during that time the Palestinian Authority, the Palestinian government in the West Bank got in touch with an offer. Now the PA oversees the administration of a fraction of the West Bank, Area A, whilst jointly doing so over Area B with Israel, whilst Israel control the vast majority, which comprises Area C, this is how the West Bank is split up.
They are led by the now 87 year old Mahmood Abbas, a guy who lost the election to run Palestine to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran last year, back in 2006 and he has refused to hold an election ever since, though the people of Gaza recognised Hamas as their rightful government, splitting the administration of Palestine which has suited Israel no end, and with Abbas and the PA basically hoping if they do everything Israel wants, they’ll get their share in the end, bad blood with Hamas has only increased over time. One old mans disdain for democracy has harmed Palestine no end.
To that end, the PA’s offer. Here’s an excerpt from Middle East Eye to explain it:
‘The Palestinian Authority (PA) has informed the United States that it is willing to confront Hamas if necessary to take control of the Gaza Strip, according to sources who spoke with Middle East Eye. This message was delivered by senior PA official Hussein al-Sheikh during a meeting in Riyadh with Steve Witkoff, a Middle East envoy for former President Donald Trump. The meeting was facilitated by Saudi Arabia, though the kingdom did not review the PA’s plan beforehand. The proposed strategy would install a governing committee in Gaza, largely composed of officials from outside the enclave, with Ziad Abu Amr—a longtime advisor to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas—expected to take a leading role.
Abu Amr, a US citizen born in Gaza in 1950, would be appointed as deputy to Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa while receiving significant executive powers over Gaza. The PA's initiative aimed to secure US backing and was part of broader diplomatic efforts involving Saudi Arabia. After his meeting with Sheikh, Witkoff proceeded to Israel for discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Notably, he also made a historic visit to Gaza, marking the first time in 15 years that a US official had set foot in the territory.
Despite the PA’s claims of readiness to challenge Hamas, US defense officials have dismissed the idea as unrealistic. One senior US defense official told MEE that the proposal sounded “delusional,” emphasizing that the PA would need military support, possibly from other Arab states or private contractors, to have any chance of success.’
Note the mention of former President Donald Trump there, this visit was a few weeks ago now. Bear that in mind, because it speaks of how long in the planning everything I’m going to cover has been.
Now they don’t have the clout to do it the US says, the PA are all mouth and no trousers. But what did Netanyahu think?
Well his eyes must have lit up. The answer to his prayers perhaps, this is where my troop shortage could be solved! Never mind the US saying it’s unworkable, never mind so many of the Palestinian Authorities troops are currently busy committing atrocities alongside Israel in the West bank, some 3000 people displaced from the refugee camps of Jenin and Tulkarem, because the PA, like Israel seem to enjoy targeting the weakest and most vulnerable. Ethnic cleansing of their fellow Palestinians in alliance with Israel, the PA really are bottom feeders and here they are volunteering to take on Gaza too, to fight Hamas as well, Palestinian vs Palestinian all to Israel’s delight.
Well the US thinks it’s a stupid idea, Netanyahu it seems has thought differently and we now know this, because the Palestinian Authority has now been in control of the Rafah Border Crossing, in the Philadelphi Corridor, for at least the last 2 days, along with a European security force and Egyptian assistance as well, all being run by a member of Mahmood Abbas’ Fatah party called Faras a-Rifi. Here’s an excerpt from The Cradle about this:
‘Although Netanyahu's office denied PA involvement, the Palestinian Authority police spokesman confirmed Fares a-Rifi’s appointment. He is an active Fatah member and has previously worked for the PA in Gaza. The crossing's operation is politically sensitive, leading President Mahmoud Abbas to restrict public interviews with PA officials. Despite this, PA officials have been coordinating with Israeli, Egyptian, and international entities for weeks to manage the crossing.
The PA began preparations for the crossing’s control over the past month, with high-level discussions between Palestinian officials and Egyptian intelligence. These talks were crucial for setting up the mechanisms that allowed the Rafah crossing to open. The PA’s Nazmi Mohanna and Ayman Qandil were among the key figures in these efforts, working closely with security agencies in Egypt to facilitate the process.
The sensitivity of the situation is linked to internal political dynamics. Netanyahu and Israeli security officials have long been opposed to any Palestinian Authority presence in Gaza, especially in controlling key crossings like Rafah. This opposition has been a major obstacle in reaching agreements related to the management of the crossing. Despite Israel's objections, an agreement has been reached allowing the PA to oversee Rafah, with international monitoring, while Israeli security remains involved in the approval of individuals crossing.’
To my mind Israel are still functionally in control, but the level of Egyptian assistance, when all of this Israeli control of the Philadelphi Corridor and the Rafah Crossing is in total violation of the Camp David Peace Accords and every time you think may be Egypt is going to push back a bit, instead it does something to roll over it seems. It’s worth mentioning that aside from Israel, Egypt is the only other state to not lose international aid from the US, so perhaps there’s a price that’s been paid here?
For the Palestinian Authority, this is seen as an opportunity to regain control over Gaza from Hamas, that election the PA lost in 2006 something Abbas still can’t cope with it seems, but having avoided elections every since, in no small part because they’ve basically sided with Israel and Abbas surely would certainly lose again to someone else as a result, it’s now a case of maybe Israel will let us keep it if we do this? Maybe not though.
You see above all else, no matter what the PA might do versus Hamas, and Hamas, having rebuilt their numbers despite the Gaza genocide will not abandon Gaza and especially not to Israel’s PA skivvies, Netanyahu is beholden to the far right in his own government most of all and to that end, cue Bezalel Smotrich, who has said:
‘"The situation on the ground shows the need to continue the military campaign until Hamas is completely destroyed, and we are determined to do so."
"We cannot ignore the difficult scenes in Gaza and Hamas's display of its rule and control."
"We trust that US President Trump's administration will work to strengthen Israel's security."
"I support a peace deal with Saudi Arabia but it can't include giving hope to the Palestinian Authority and to the Arabs in Judea and Samaria and Gaza about a path for a Palestinian state"’
It doesn’t matter how much creeping to Israel the PA do, for too many, especially amongst the settler movement and their representatives like Smotrich, they are still Palestinians and will still be treated as second class no matter what, even if they are prepared to risk their lives for Israel’s cause, which is a pretty sick state of mind, the if you can’t beat them join them mentality.
Hamas for their part have their own plans for a post genocide Gaza. They, via their political bureau chief Moussa Abu Marzouk, have been full of praise of special envoy Steve Witkoff and they want to open a dialogue directly with the US. Now, Hamas have tried this before with George W Bush and he blanked them completely. Witkoff has visited Gaza itself and seen what Israel have done there, has that moved him? Well whether it has or not doesn’t necessarily tie in with the politics, But Hamas have said they are open to dialogue with anyone with regards to the future direction of Gaza except of course for Israel. That said, he was less than impressed with Trump’s plan to send Gazans to Egypt and Jordan and any dealing with Trump comes with inherent risks which apply as much to Israel as they do to Hamas. If he mentions tariffs though, just walk away.
Lots of potential directions things can go in here in the short term, but it may all be moot if the ceasefire doesn’t last and with Smotrich in the drivers seat as far as Netanyahu’s government’s survival goes, all roads point to atrocities resuming and who presides over ever greater piles of rubble may not matter very much.
In line with that thinking the matter of aid getting into Gaza has come under focus again as the right kind of aid isn’t getting in, the essentials, the basics, like water is not being delivered as its needed all pointing to Israel letting aid in, but perhaps only stuff they care to lose if they resume the fighting.
