The Ministry for State Security, or Stasi for short, was the GDR's secret police. It spied on and monitored citizens, imprisoned opposition members, and carried out torture and murder. At its former headquarters in Berlin, we show you how the Stasi managed to penetrate deep into the private lives of GDR citizens.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, demonstrators stormed the Stasi's Berlin headquarters on 15 January 1990. This year marks the 35th anniversary of that event.
