Names of FBI agents who investigated Capitol riots to be handed over to Trump DOJ officials

FBI executives considered resisting a Justice Department order to release the names of agents involved in Capitol riot cases but ultimately complied.

The FBI’s legal team determined that the Trump administration’s demand was lawful and that refusal was not an option.

The FBI Agents Association and former FBI Director William Webster condemned the removal of eight senior officials, warning it endangered investigations and national security.

A group representing retired FBI agents urged members to protest potential firings of Jan. 6 case agents, calling it a dangerous distraction.

Senate Democrats demanded records on the Trump administration’s firings and reassignments of Justice Department and FBI officials, citing concerns over political purges.

They warned that up to 20 senior Justice Department lawyers and at least eight FBI managers had been removed, raising fears of a broader purge, NBC News has reported.

President Trump’s administration defended the personnel changes, with Senator Eric Schmitt arguing they were necessary reforms against “permanent Washington.”
