War is a horror that only politicians can sugarcoat. A man who has spent his entire life fighting against war and the suffering it causes is my guest today: war surgeon Flavio del Ponte.

Dr. Flavio del Ponte has been active since 1986 as a trainer for war surgeons in various locations, including on behalf of the Red Cross and the WHO, as Chief Medical Officer for the UN mission in Africa, and as Medical Advisor to the UN Secretariat for Peacekeeping Operations in New York. From 1996 to 2009, he also worked as a physician for Swiss Humanitarian Aid, overseeing international dossiers on mine action and bioterrorism.
