Ukraine may have deployed a new generation of UAVs in its recent attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. Reports suggest that on January 29, drones from Ukraine’s 14th Independent Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment struck a pumping station on the Druzhba pipeline near the Russian-Belarusian border in the Bryansk region.

The Druzhba pipeline, one of the world’s largest oil transport routes, plays a crucial role in Russia’s economy. The strike reportedly caused a large fire, even detected by NASA’s satellite systems.

According to sources, previous drone strikes mainly involved explosive-packed UAVs crashing into their targets. However, new tactics suggest that Ukrainian drones may now be equipped to drop bombs and return to base, increasing their effectiveness and longevity.

Military analysts speculate that modified civilian aircraft might be used, extending their operational range to over 1,200 kilometers—posing a new challenge to Russia’s oil supply security.
