- 1.5 cups basmati rice (soaked for 30 minutes)
- 3 cups water
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2-3 cloves
- 1-2 bay leaves
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp cooking oil or ghee
#### **For Talli Hui Mirchein (Fried Green Chilies):**
- 6-8 green chilies (slit lengthwise)
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste

#### **1. Prepare the Daal:**
1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and boil them in 4 cups of water with turmeric powder until soft and mushy. Set aside.

4. Add ginger and garlic paste, and sauté for a minute.

3. Add water and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed (about 15-20 minutes).
4. Fluff the rice with a fork and set aside.

1. Slit the green chilies lengthwise, keeping the stem intact.
