TRUMP Gets A DESERVED Kicking Straight In The Tariffs!
Right, so Donald Trump, still unable to comprehend the concept of tariffs hurting the US as much, if not more than those nations he is inflicting them on, is par for the course for this deeply unintelligent man, too hard of thinking to reason with or to listen to others, thinking he’s found the holy grail of trade leverage, when in actual fact he’s cutting his nose of to spite his face, his two brain cells fighting over third place as people desperately try to explain why this is a bad idea. Unfortunately, like all those who voted for him, he is it would appear going to have to learn the hard way, that as the biggest importer of goods globally, the US can be hurt more by such nonsensical acts against it’s three biggest trade partners as have no been announced, tariffs being slapped on China, Mexico and Canada, but it matters to the rest of the world, too, because not only can this deranged overstuffed Cheeto continue to slap tariffs on other nations for breathing in the wrong direction, thinking he can get away with it, because all imports can be produced in the US, it makes the US an increasingly more and more unstable ally and for us here in the UK, it’ll be a real test for a Prime Minister like Keir Starmer as to whether he moves closer to Trump with all the risks that comes with, or back towards the EU, when he ditched his rejoin credentials the minute he dumped Jeremy Corbyn, made all the more imperative with Reform UK AKA the Cult of Donald Trump waiting in the wings to seize power, enabled by Starmer’s stupidity up until now.
Right, so Donald Trump has made good on his threat to impose tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico, the US’s three biggest trade partners by signing an executive order imposing an additional 10% in tariffs on China on top of those already in place and tariffs of 25% on all Mexican and Canadian imports, with the exception of Canadian oil, which has a tariff of 10% levied on it.
Trump, despite the number of times he must have had it pinted out to him by now, will not accept that tariffs hurt the US as much, if not more than those doing the exporting, the cost of the tariff is applied to the importer and passed onto the American consumer, he just doesn’t seem to get this at all. Obviously this does hurt the exporter too, they will certainly end up exporting less, but they have potentially other options to export more elsewhere or open new markets up, however Trump thinks he has these three nations over a barrel, because the US is their largest customer and with Mexico and Canada bordering them, he thinks they have no other options. Well, you don’t end up with things like trade wars over nothing and if Trump wanted a trade war, he’s going to get one.
China for example, export a huge amount of toys to the US, some 31%, so they’ll all go up, but they also used to export a large amount of car components for the US automotive industry. That was, until they realised it was cheaper to export the car parts to Mexico as a for instance, avoiding those tariffs by using Mexico as a middle man. Well now Mexico has had 25% tariffs slapped on them, the US automotive industry is going to take a hit. It’s all well and good buying an American car, but when much of what it is made of is made elsewhere, or comes from elsewhere, how much if it is really American?
The stock markets have already gone into panic because they never believed Trump would go ahead with this idiocy, but he has and the US economy is going to nosedive, some projections estimating it could be as bad as it got during the pandemic, if not worse, depending on how much worse Trump makes matters.
Good will hit shelves between 10% and 25% more expensive than they were previously and it is going to affect a lot of goods, people will buy not based on want but based on need, therefore this will affect a lot of non-tariff affected more luxury items for example as people can no longer afford them, paying extra for essentials that are tariffed and of course those nations who have had tariffs slapped on them will retaliate too.
China for their part have also announced that they are going to banning or severely limiting the export of rare earth minerals like Gallium, Germanium and Antimony to the US as a result of these tariffs and if you’ve been following the Artificial Intelligence blow up in the last week concerning the release of DeepSeek a rival to Chat GPT which is opensource, free, and arguably better you’ll know how much of a shock to the US it was that without their top of the range Nvidia chips, that China were able to produce something like DeepSeek, but to make those chips, hilariously I think, the US is reliant on the import of such rare earth minerals to make semiconductors for their chips. No minerals, no chips, or far more expensive chips. This also has major military implications for the US as well. Its another reason Trump is so interested in Greenland, because they have that mineral wealth too, but they strictly control how much mining goes on there too, which Trump of course wouldn’t give a toss about and then you end up with talk of tariffs on Denmark or the EU and talk of invading Greenland and going to war with the EU, because Trump is a thug and a bully and thinks he can push everyone else around, but he’s also thick as mince. The lack of rare earth minerals in the US itself and the reliance of the military on semiconductors has been a known security risk in the US for years, it’s like I’ve pointed out in the past here that out steel industry in the UK, crucial for our defence, should be renationalised because not having control over it is a national security risk, but capitalism doesn’t believe in such notions.
It's an avoidable issue though, the tariffs are not needed, and lets face it, with everyone wanting rare earth minerals, there’s no shortage of customers for China for these and the Chinese have largely just shrugged at these tariffs and said we’ll just sell our wares to others and
They probably can.
Canada, has had 25% slapped on all of their goods that they export except for oil, which Trump has slapped a 10% tariff on. This is possibly the most harmful and most stupid, because it is cold in the northern states right now and 98% of American’s energy imports come from Canada. Canada for it’s part has said it’ll switch the taps off, which will potentially turn off the lights and the heating to Minnesota, Michigan and New York States whilst also hitting the energy markets in Wyoming, Washington, Montana and Wisconsin. US energy bills will skyrocket as demand exceeds supply as always happens, the private energy companies will scalp everyone more and goodness we know all about that here in the UK too. It will also affect imports of potatoes and grains, the very basics when it comes to food, along with lumber and steel.
As for Mexico, aside from the aforementioned car parts, 69% of all fresh vegetables and 51% of all fresh fruit is imported into the US from Mexico
And then this knocks on to everyone else besides. If the US is struggling under the weight of all the additional costs Trump is inflicting upon them, all other nations trading with the US, will end up paying more too, as the US tries to balance it’s economy by overcharging everyone else. There’s also no lower limit on how these tariffs affect people, even someone in the US buying a small item on ebay from a seller in Canada will now see a 25% tariff slapped on top.
Trade deals with the US suddenly become a lot less attractive and right now, here in the UK, Keir Starmer is desperately trying to kiss Trump’s backside, when actually, there’s little sign of a special relationship there anymore, Trump already having threatened 20% tariffs on the UK, along with all other nations in order to protect US produce, but as we’ve shown they don’t produce everything they need, what country does in point of fact anymore? It’s all a global marketplace, but the wise move would then be to move back towards Europe and the EU for trade.
Politically, it’s toxic for Starmer though. He used it as an excuse to help bring down his predecessor Jeremy Corbyn over Brexit, he was Mr Remain, then abandoned it all, as he does everything he promises to do really, he has a similar relationship with the truth to Donald Trump to be honest and of course he’s lost masses of ground to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK Ltd in the polls having broken his word, having carried on like the Tories before him, but Farage’s bunch are basically Make America Great Again UK, the biggest cheerleaders for Trump here and it’s the last thing we need is to have a Farage led government who would sell us out to Trump more than anyone else. Fundamentally, Starmer, to do right by the country would have to jeopardise his own position more, by going back to Europe to some extent or other, not necessarily rejoining, but a better trade relationship definitely. He’ll never do it though.
Canada is switching off the energy taps, they are stopping imports of liquor from red states, $155bn worth of US goods are now getting a 25% tariff slapped on them, which negates Trump’s reasoning to protect US goods, because of course other countries can do it too and whilst it has the same self harming effect, how can they possibly let Trump get away with what is economic thuggery? Will Trump go higher? Probably, but it will be ordinary Americans suffering because of his stupidity and how much of that will they tolerate? The expense, the shortages, Mexico are saying they’ll impose tariffs too, but no specifics on that have yet come.
We’re seeing a trade war launch here for absolutely no reason whatsoever, because of one old man’s superiority complex only outmatched by his overbearing stupidity. As for other world leaders and how they react as the knock on effects start to be felt, how stupid they are depends on if they decide to follow him or not.
Meanwhile there is still the idea floating around in the infinite expanse of dead space that passes for the contents of Little Donnie’s skull of making Canada and Greenland part of the US of course, no need for tariffs then, but that is actually just scratching the surface of how, outside of all this talk of tariffs that the US is causing major global upset in all manner of other countries, Trump already having become a laughing stock in so many of them, all the details of their pointing and laughing at the big orange man baby in this video recommendation here as your suggested next watch.
