The Judge’s Fire Blues" – A Psalm 50 Blues Song with Depth and Power
** Psalm 50 was written by Asaph, a Levite and chief musician appointed by King David to lead worship in the tabernacle (1 Chronicles 16:4-7). Asaph was not just a musician but also a prophet, and his psalms often carry deep messages of justice, judgment, and true worship.
Psalm 50 is a powerful prophetic song where God Himself speaks as the Judge of all the earth. It’s a divine courtroom scene where He calls His people to account—not for a lack of sacrifices, but for false religion, hypocrisy, and wickedness. God makes it clear: He doesn’t need offerings; He desires a heart of thanksgiving, righteousness, and obedience. The psalm is both a warning to the wicked and a promise of salvation to the faithful.
** Psalm 50 (WEB)
1 The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, speaks,
and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines out.
3 Our God comes, and does not keep silent.
A fire devours before him.
It is very stormy around him.
4 He calls to the heavens above,
to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 “Gather my saints together to me,
those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”
6 The heavens shall declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge. Selah.
7 “Hear, my people, and I will speak;
Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
8 I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices.
Your burnt offerings are continually before me.
9 I have no need for a bull from your stall,
nor male goats from your pens.
10 For every animal of the forest is mine,
and the livestock on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the mountains.
The wild animals of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 Will I eat the meat of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving.
Pay your vows to the Most High.
15 Call on me in the day of trouble.

** Psalm 50: "The Judge’s Fire Blues" – Song Lyrics
Verse 1
The Mighty One is callin’,
From the sunrise to the west.
Out of Zion, He is shinin’,
In His beauty, at His best.
He comes and He ain't silent,
Fire's burnin’ at His feet,
Storm clouds roll before Him,
Where the righteous and wicked meet.
Chorus
Oh, the Judge is callin’ loud,
From the heavens to the land.
Gather close, you saints and sinners,
Time to take your stand.
Verse 2
He says, "I don’t need your bulls,
No goats from out your pens.
Every beast is mine already,
On a thousand hills and glens.
If I hungered, I won't tell ya,
For the world belongs to Me.
I ain't livin’ off your altars,
I need hearts to bend the knee."
Chorus
Oh, the Judge is callin’ loud,
From the heavens to the land.
Gather close, you saints and sinners,
Time to take your stand.
Verse 3
"But you hatin’ my instruction,
Turnin’ words behind your back.
Runnin’ with the thieves and liars,
Steppin’ on the righteous track.
You sit and slander brothers,
Throwin’ dirt on your own kin,
You thought I was just like you,
But I'm callin’ out your sin."
Bridge (Original Scripture: Isaiah 1:18, Micah 6:8)
"Come now, let's reason together,"
Says the Lord, calm and strong.
"Though your sins be red like crimson,
I can make ‘em white as dawn.
I don’t need burnt-off’rings,
I need justice, truth, and grace.
Walk humbly with your Maker,
And you’ll stand before My face."
Verse 4
"Now you who forget my name,
Turn your ear and listen well.
Or I’ll tear you into pieces,
No one there to break the spell.
But the ones who bring thanksgiving,
And the ones who walk in light,
They will see My full salvation,
When I rise in glory bright."
Chorus (Repeat Softly, Then Build)
Oh, the Judge is callin’ loud,
From the heavens to the land.
Gather close, you saints and sinners,
Time to take your stand.
Outro
Oh, the fire’s burnin’,
And the storm is rollin’ through.
He’s callin’ for the faithful,
Now what you gonna do?
