February 2, 2025, John 4:1-42 (Live)
[3rd party content info at the bottom]
John 4:1-2, the Pharisees were angry about the growth of conversion by Jesus, and His disciples were the ones who baptized
John 4:3-5, so Jesus decided to go through Samaria (the direct and shortest route) to reach Galilee, even though the Jews did not normally interact with Samaritans (normally people would go around Samaria)
John 4:6, it happened to be around noon when Jesus rested by a well (a good time for lunch)
John 4:27, and when His disciples caught up with Him, they marveled that Jesus was talking to a Samaritan woman (for normally the Jews did not interact with Samaritans)
John 4:31-38, when His disciples pressed Him for lunch, Jesus reminded them of His true food/bread and harvest
John 4:35-36, Jesus returned His disciples attention back to gathering people to God: God already sowed the seeds, and His expectation was for His disciples to gather the grown produce
John 4:36, as the planter (God) and laborers/gatherers worked together, they would enjoy the fruit of the harvest (a loving family in God's kingdom)
John 4:9, the Samaritan woman marveled that a Jew (Jesus) would request a drink of water from her, for normally the Jews did not want to associate with the Samaritans
John 4:10-26, Jesus shared Himself (the fact that He was the Messiah, ready to give eternal life to those who asked for it) with her, revealing that he was Messiah, and was able to give her a drink of living water (salvation). The conversation began naturally as they both had an opportunity for common ground: the woman had the well water and the Lord had the living water. This was a good example of how someone shared Christ with another soul.
John 4:20-25, there was a dispute about the Jews requiring people to show up to Jerusalem to worship, whereas the Samaritans could worship outside of Jerusalem, but Jesus proclaimed in that instant the good news- the time was coming where God would be accessible everywhere (after His resurrection)
John 4:28-29, the Samaritan woman immediately left her task and went back to her city and told everyone about Jesus
John 4:39-42, because of the Samaritan woman's testimony, many in the city turned to Christ; moreover, the new believers received their own witness of Jesus (by Jesus, because to God belonged the glory)
