On October 1, 2024, the 28th Bomb Wing worked with the 319th Reconnaissance Wing to conduct a hot pit refuelling operation at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota, demonstrating the base's and its Airmen's adaptability.

Having previously operated B-1s, the hot pit comes 30 years after the final B-1B Lancer left Grand Forks in 1994. Many of the qualities required to house the bomber remain, such as runway length requirements, ammunition storage capabilities, and the ability to refuel the aircraft.
