Shooting From The Hip - 1 - Subjectivity & Objectivity: Why Do They Matter? Part 1
What is your perception in life?
“Perception is merely a lens or mindset from which we view people, events, & things.” In other words, we believe what we perceive to be accurate, & we create our own realities based on those perceptions. Although our perceptions feel very real, that doesn't mean they're necessarily factual.
Reality
noun - 1. the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. "he refuses to face reality"
2. the state or quality of having existence or substance. "youth, when death has no reality"
What does reality mean in life?
Reality are the things in life that are commonly observed & verified to exist, things that are consistent & not random or influenced by conformity or mass hysteria. Something that is perceived as real & is physically experienced by the senses.
Subjectivity
a philosophical context has to do with a lack of objective reality. Subjectivity has been given various & ambiguous definitions by differing sources as it is not often the focal point of philosophical discourse.
However, it is related to ideas of consciousness, agency, personhood, philosophy of mind, reality, & truth.
3 common definitions include that subjectivity is the quality or condition of:
1) Something being a subject, narrowly meaning an individual who possesses conscious experiences, such as perspectives, feelings, beliefs, & desires.
2) Something being a subject, broadly meaning an entity that has agency, meaning that it acts upon or wields power over some other entity (an object).
3) Some information, idea, situation, or physical thing considered true only from the perspective of a subject or subjects.
Objectivity
is the concept of truth independent from individual subjectivity (bias caused by one's perception, emotions, or imagination & preferences)
A proposition is considered to have objective truth when its truth conditions are met without bias caused by a sentient subject.
Scientific objectivity refers to the ability to judge without partiality or external influence.
