Jonathan Majors is returning to the big screens with his new movie Magazine Dreams, and we just got the first look.

On Wednesday (January 29), the trailer for the 35-year-old actor’s movie premiered. In it, he plays a body builder who is struggling to become the best while facing various challenges.

“You have to do something big and important or nobody will remember you when you’re dead,” he says at the start of the trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Killian Maddox (Majors) is consumed by his dream of becoming a world famous bodybuilder and one day gracing the cover of fitness magazines. He lives a lonely, regimented life, and his relentless drive for perfection only pushes him deeper towards self destruction, but beneath his tenacious pursuit of superstardom lies a desperate, aching need for human connection. As he battles both the limits of his physical body and his own inner demons, MAGAZINE DREAMS explores the lengths one man will go in his haunting quest for recognition in a world that often overlooks him.”

Magazine Dreams will premiere in theaters on March 21, 2025. It’s the first of Jonathan‘s projects to get an official release date after the conclusion of his assault trial involving ex Grace Jabbari.

Jonathan was found guilty of third degree assault and harassment in December 2024. However, a second defamation and assault lawsuit against him was dropped by Grace in November.
Jonathan Majors‘ comeback is here as Briarcliff Entertainment in conjunction with Zeus Films shares the trailer for the formerly-shelved film, Magazine Dreams. The chilling film hits theaters on March 21.

Majors stars as Killian Maddox, a man — described by Entertainment Weekly as “isolated and oftentimes volatile” — consumed by dreams of becoming a famous bodybuilder while struggling to find human connection. “You have to do something big and important, or no one will remember you when you’re dead,” he says in the trailer.

The official synopsis reads: “[Killian] battles both the limits of his physical body and his own inner demons” with the film exploring the “lengths one man will go in his haunting quest for recognition in a world that often overlooks him.”

Written and directed by Elijah Bynum, the film also stars Harrison Page as Killian’s debilitating veteran grandfather whom he cares for, alongside Taylour Paige, Haley Bennett, and bodybuilder Mike O’Hearn.

It garnered critical acclaim after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023 and won its U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award. The win sparked a bidding war with Searchlight emerging as the victor with the distribution rights. However, the company dropped the film after Majors was convicted of domestic assault and harassment against ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

He was given probation and mandatory orders to attend 52 weeks of a domestic violence intervention program.

“Elijah’s film made a well-deserved splash in Sundance and Briarcliff is looking forward to taking his story to the big screen across the country in early 2025,” Briarcliff’s CEO Tom Ortenberg said in a statement, per Variety.

Speaking on Majors’ performance, Ortenberg added, “Jonathan Majors’ transcendent performance as Killian Maddox will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative roles in recent cinema history. We are honored to bring this extraordinary work to theaters nationwide, inviting audiences to witness a story that will resonate long after the credits roll.”
Two years after Magazine Dreams premiered to huge buzz at the Sundance Film Festival, the first trailer for the film featuring Jonathan Majors’ breakout performance has finally been released.

The trailer opens with Majors’ character saying in voiceover, “You have to do something big and important for people to remember you when you’re dead.”

What follows are scenes of his aspiring bodybuilder juggling a part-time grocery job, court-mandated therapy and the care of his ailing veteran grandfather, all of which serve to forward that initial line’s blend of themes that include massive ambition, self-hate and death.

Magazine Dreams, from writer-director Elijah Bynum, premiered at Sundance on January 20, 2023, where Majors’ performance garnered critical acclaim and a standing ovation. Searchlight acquired the hot title last year out of Park City for an estimated seven figures. The film also features Taylour Paige, Elijah Bynum and Haley Bennett.

‘Magazine Dreams’ Jonathan Majors On Transforming To Play A Troubled Bodybuilder, Joining Marvel Universe & Getting Punched Really Hard By Michael B. Jordan In ‘Creed III’ – Sundance
Following Majors’ conviction on assault and harassment charges related to his relationship with ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, Searchlight Pictures dropped the film in which he portrays an emotionally disturbed aspiring bodybuilder. Tom Ortenberg’s Briarcliff Entertainment stepped in last month and has set a March 21, 2025 release.

Majors delivers a powerful performance in the titular role as Killian Maddox, an aspiring bodybuilder juggling a part-time grocery job, court-mandated therapy and the care of his ailing veteran grandfather. His dreams of bodybuilding glory are threatened by his volatile temper as well as the physical toll his extreme training takes on his body.

Zeus Network is Briarcliff’s marketing partner for Magazine Dreams.

The film is produced by Jennifer Fox, Dan Gilroy, Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman. Executive producers include Majors for his Tall Street Productions, and Luke Rodgers and Andrew Blau for Los Angeles Media Fund. Also executive producing are Lemuel Plummer, LJ Plummer and Jason Tolbert.
Jonathan Majors‘ violent bodybuilding drama “Magazine Dreams” has received its first trailer, after the actor was convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and the film was temporarily shelved. It will now release in theaters on March 21 from Briarcliff Entertainment.

In the film, Majors plays amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox, who aspires to make a name for himself within the violent world of bodybuilding. However, to the detriment of his physical and mental health, he continues to strive to become a star, as he continues to go against doctors’ orders and grapple with his peers.

While “Magazine Dreams” was met with buzz after its debut at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, sparking a bidding war that led the film to find a home at Searchlight Pictures for a reported mid-seven figures, the distributor dropped the film in January 2024 after Majors was accused of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

Majors was arrested in March 2023 in Manhattan, which then led to him being charged with several counts of assault and aggravated harassment against Jabbari. After going to trial in New York, he was found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault. Jabbari also sued Majors for assault and defamation, but the suit was settled in November 2024.

In “Magazine Dreams,” Haley Bennett stars as Jessie, Killian’s love interest, and the cast also includes Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page and Harriet Sansom Harris. Majors also served as an executive producer with Andrew Blau and Luke Rodgers. The film was written and directed by Elijah Bynum (“Hot Summer Nights”).
When “Magazine Dreams” premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, it seemed positioned to become one of the year’s breakout hits. Jonathan Majors was gearing up for a career-best year, with roles in “Creed 3” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” to come, while Elijah Bynum’s bodybuilding drama gave the actor the kind of showcase that many believed could lead to Oscar glory. A Sundance bidding war broke out, with Searchlight acquiring the theatrical rights and planning a late 2023 release.

But those plans collapsed when Majors was arrested on charges of assault and harassment in March 2023 and found guilty in December 2023. Searchlight pulled the film from its release calendar and Majors was dropped from many of his future projects, including his role as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was expected to continue through the next two “Avengers” movies.

“Magazine Dreams” was once again shopped to interested buyers and acquired by Briarcliff Entertainment, a distributor known for its willingness to take on controversial films like Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice.” When it hits theaters in March, cinephiles will finally get a chance to see a film that could have become a career-defining performance for Majors.

Written and directed by Bynum, “Magazine Dreams” follows an amateur bodybuilder who struggles to stay sane while balancing the dreams of appearing in muscle magazines that fuel his athletic ambitions and his day job working in a grocery store. The film also stars Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, and Mike O’Hearn.

In her initial review of the film following its Sundance premiere, IndieWire’s Kate Erbland noted the parallels between “Magazine Dreams” and “Taxi Driver,” with Majors’ Killian Maddox drawing comparisons to Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle for the level of isolation and obsession that both characters demonstrate. “But it’s hard to imagine Travis Bickle ever embracing even a quarter of the control, drive, and determination that we see from Majors’ Killian Maddox in the film’s first act,” she wrote. “Control is at the center of Killian’s primary obsession: to become a bodybuilding star, the kind that graces the covers of, yes, magazines.”

Briarcliff Entertainment will release “Magazine Dreams” in theaters on Friday, March 21. Watch the film’s first trailer below.
The Magazine Dreams trailer reveals Jonathan Majors' delayed drama nearly two years after the actor's legal trouble. Written and directed by Elijah Bynum, the forthcoming film follows a fictional and self-destructive bodybuilder with dreams of one day gracing the cover of fitness magazines. The movie stars Jonathan Majors in the lead role alongside Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O'Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris.

Now, Briarcliff Entertainment has unveiled the first official trailer for Magazine Dreams. The trailer introduces Majors as Killian Maddox, an aspiring bodybuilder with dreams of becoming Mr. Olympia. Beneath his lonely and regimented life lies a desperate longing for human connection, but his tenacious pursuit of superstardom only pushes himself deeper towards self-destruction, including continuing to take steroids despite doctors' warnings that they are destroying his liver. Back in January 2023, the movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, with Magazine Dreams' reviews praising Jonathan Majors' performance as the troubled bodybuilder. The movie was subsequently acquired by Searchlight Pictures, a division of Disney, for theatrical distribution. However, after Majors was arrested for assault in March 2023, the movie was dropped by the distributor. In December 2023, Majors was convicted of domestic assault and harassment against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, and was dropped from multiple roles, including Kang the Conquerer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Magazine Dreams would lie dormant until October 2024 when Briarcliff Entertainment acquired the domestic distribution rights and scheduled it for a theatrical release in March 2025. Despite the actor's legal trouble, the trailer highlights much of the acclaim for the movie and Majors' performance. Critics have called Magazine Dreams "visceral and intense" with an "entirely astonishing lead performance" from Majors, the "kind of earth-shattering showcase that turns an actor into a legend." Critics have also called the movie "nerve-shredding," "true artistry," "a real vision," "explosive," "surreal," and "deeply touching."

Our Take On The Magazine Dreams Trailer
How Will It Fare In Theaters?
Jonathan Majors as Kang looking worried in Ant-Man 3 and Jonathan Majors as Killian with his shirt off in Magazine Dreams.
It will be interesting to see how Magazine Dreams fares in theaters this March. On one hand, Majors appears to give a great performance, though the actor is a deeply divisive figure following his conviction of domestic assault and harassment. Magazine Dreams undoubtedly deserves to be seen, but with the controversial actor involved, perhaps one has to separate the art from the artist. Ultimately, Magazine Dreams appears to be a poignant exploration of obsession and isolation, leaving audiences to grapple with both the film's haunting themes and the complex legacy of its star.

Magazine Dreams
Magazine
After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival a couple of years ago to pretty good reviews, Magazine Dreams will finally get a release in the U.S. later this year, and thus, has a new trailer.

The film was snapped up quite quickly by Searchlight Pictures who then pulled the film from schedules following star Jonathan Majors’ arrest and verdict in an assault and harassment case. The film was picked by by Briarcliff Entertainment with a release date then set.

Magazine Dreams follows aspiring bodybuilder Killian Maddox (Jonathan Majors), who struggles to find human connection in this exploration of celebrity and violence. Nothing deters him from his fiercely protected dream of superstardom, not even the doctors who warn him of the permanent damage he causes to himself with his quest.

We reviewed the film at Sundance 2023 very positively.

There are echoes of Scorsese – think Taxi Driver or The King Of Comedy, as well as hints of Tarantino and even Refn. This is one of the stronger movies to come out of Sundance this year (pun intended), and a big contender for one of the top prizes, too.

It still has no UK release or distributor that we can see.

The new trailer is below.
