Fortunately, I have a colony of Black Skimmers that nest yearly on a nearby beach. Florida has listed them as a Threatened Species. I spend my summers photographing and educating beach visitors about these unique birds. Skimmers are one of the only birds that have a lower mandible longer than the upper, which enables their skimming ability.
