Specialized team heading to NC to help with Florence aftermath

A specialized rescue team from Maryland is heading to North Carolina to help people still trapped in rising floodwaters. Members of the Maryland Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team, also known as MD-HART, will be helping rescuers down in NC to save people who are trapped in flooded areas like Lumberton, which is south of Fayetteville. The MD-HART team can assist with car rescues in swift water flood zones, saving people trapped on rooftops or confined areas, even through windows and balconies. The team is made up of two Blackhawk helicopters with eight crews members, and three people from the Maryland Army National Guard. Governor Larry Hogan is also opening up two pet-friendly shelters here in Maryland for anyone who needs a safe place to stay from the aftermath of Florence. One is at the Ritchie Coliseum at College Park, the other is at the athletics center at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills in Talbot County. The Maryland Emergency Management Agency is also sending a damage assessment team leader to help out in South Carolina
