The American Royal’s World Series of Barbecue returns to the Kansas Speedway this weekend. The event is open to the public Friday and Saturday. A ticket is required. Over the weekend, hundreds of pitmasters from 38 U.S. states and nine foreign countries – including as far away as Australia – will compete in two separate levels of competition to earn the title of barbecue champion. The primary categories for judging include brisket, pork, pork ribs and chicken. This year, the World Series has added a pork loin and turkey competition. Sides and desserts are also judged.
