A scientific team were left shell-shocked after they discovered a World War Two torpedo net in a relatively shallow British reservoir. The historic item was believed to have been put down in response to the Luftwaffe conducting aerial photographic surveys of Burrator Reservoir in 1941. Experts said there was a genuine fear that a torpedo could have been dropped into the water source. But a specialist team, who made the discovery while testing out submersibles at the 19th century structure, said they were still stunned to find one in such good condition. The net was found just 30 minutes into the hunt and was instantly recognised by Professor Robert J Stone, from the University of Birmingham.
