The tragic incident occurred on November 17, 2022, in their Henry County home, where authorities were initially called to respond to a 911 report of an infant choking on food. Upon arrival, police discovered that Layla had sustained significant bruising and injuries to her body.
The following day, Laila's four-year-old sister, who also lived in the Rosenbaum home, was examined by a doctor, revealing similar bruises and injuries. The details raised suspicions, and both Jennifer and Joseph Rosenbaum were arrested and charged. Jennifer Rosenbaum, a 27-year-old Army National Guard veteran and former military police officer, faced charges of murder, aggravated assault, and child cruelty. At the time of the incident, she was also a student at Emery Law School and had recently announced her candidacy for the Henry County Board of Commissioners. Joseph Rosenbaum, 26, who worked as a legal extern at the Georgia House of Representatives, was charged with two counts of child cruelty.
