ISAAC NEWTON PART 1
Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727) was a physicist, mathematician and astronomer who is considered one of the most influential scientists in history. His contributions to physics, mathematics and astronomy laid the foundations for the scientific revolution of the seventeenth century and had a deep impact on our understanding of the universe.
Life and career
Newton was born in Woolshorpe, Lincolnshire, England, on January 4, 1643. He studied at the University of Cambridge, where he graduated in 1665. After the university, Newton returned home in Woolsthorpe, where he spent several years studying and experimenting in Physics and mathematics.
In 1667, Newton returned to Cambridge and became a math professor. In 1687, he published his most famous work, "Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica" (mathematical principles of natural philosophy), which laid the foundations for classical physics.
Contributions
Newton made significant contributions in several areas, including:
1. *Newton's laws *: Newton formulated three laws that describe the movement of objects: the first law (Law of inertia), the second law (Law of Force) and the third law (Law of Action and the reaction).
2. *Universal gravitation *: Newton proposed the law of universal gravitation, which establishes that all objects in the universe attract each other with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
3. *Calculation *: Newton, along with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, developed the infinitesimal calculation, which is a fundamental tool for physics and engineering.
4. *Optics *: Newton made significant contributions in optics, including the theory of white light composition and the invention of the reflector telescope.
Legacy
Newton's legacy is huge. His contributions to physics, mathematics and astronomy laid the foundations for the scientific revolution of the seventeenth century and had a deep impact on our understanding of the universe. Newton is considered one of the most influential scientists in history, and his work is still studied and applied today.
Recognition
Newton received several awards for his work, including:
- Member of the Royal Society (1672)
- Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge (1669)
- Caballero (1705)
- Coley Medal (1705)
In short, Isaac Newton was an English scientist who made significant contributions in physics, mathematics and astronomy. Its laws of movement and universal gravitation laid the basis for classical physics, and its legacy remains fundamental in current science.
