The Punisher Season 2, Episode 3 Recap & Reaction, Misha the Turtle
Episode Breakdown: Trouble the Water
“Trouble the Water,” episode three of The Punisher‘s second season, throws Frank Castle and Rachel (or Amy, depending on which alias she’s cycling through) into a pressure cooker at the Larkville Sheriff’s Department. The episode doesn’t waste time cranking up the tension, as threats come crashing in from every direction.
Sheriff’s Department Shenanigans
Frank and Rachel land themselves in the custody of Sheriff Hardin, sharing space with local lowlife Marlena. Hardin’s got questions: Why does Rachel have more identities than a spy novel, and why does Frank’s record look too spotless to be real? Frank, naturally, warns the sheriff of incoming trouble. Naturally, the sheriff ignores him—until it’s too late.
Enter John Pilgrim
John Pilgrim strolls into the mix alongside Lt. Ferrera, trying to sweet-talk Hardin into handing over Frank and Rachel under the pretense of a “transfer.” Hardin declines (probably sensing the bad guy energy), so Pilgrim does what bad guys do: cuts the power, kills the phones, and sets the stage for a full-blown siege.
Meanwhile, Back in New York…
Billy Russo busts out of hospital custody in spectacularly violent fashion, dragging his therapist Krista into his escape plan. Agent Dinah Madani, perpetually one step behind, scrambles to the scene after the fact. Russo, now loose, is ready to cause chaos for the rest of the season.
The Siege
Pilgrim’s goons launch an all-out assault on the sheriff’s department. Deputy Ogden takes a bullet, and the place descends into pure chaos. Frank, ever the problem solver, earns Hardin’s trust just in time to take the fight to Pilgrim’s men. It’s classic Punisher: one man against an army, and the army doesn’t stand a chance.
Madani to the Rescue
As Pilgrim retreats, Agent Madani swoops in via helicopter. She drops the news of Russo’s escape and takes Frank and Rachel into custody. The episode closes with the trio en route to New York, where the next round of chaos surely awaits.
Overall thoughts? Watching Frank lay waste to an entire squad? As satisfying as it gets.
