A suspect is in custody after intentionally striking a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office patrol car with a deputy inside.
Deputies responded to an RV park just after 1 p.m. on Friday to investigate an aggravated battery incident.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect, Logan Williams, 27, got into a vehicle with his mother, Meriam Williams, 62, and tried to leave the area, striking another car in the process. He then struck a patrol car with Deputy Stevie Hackett and another HCSO employee inside.
“Did he just hit my car?” Hackett said, as seen in body camera video released by the sheriff’s office.
“Yes, he did,” the civilian employee responded.
Logan Williams tried to run away but was arrested by Hackett, who chased him into the nearby woods. The body camera video showed the suspect shouting at the deputies while Hackett ordered him to get on the ground.
“Get on the ground, I’ll f—ing shoot you!” Hackett shouted at Logan Williams.
“You will not shoot me! Do not shoot me,” the suspect said.
Logan Williams continued to shout that his rights were being violated and that he was entrapped — despite him being the one who crashed into a law enforcement patrol vehicle, as seen in the video.
“You crashed your car into me,” Hackett said.
“First of all, I was fleeing; I was scared for my life!” Logan Williams shouted back.
Videos taken by a bystander showed the suspect begging for the video to be published on the news.
“Put this on the news, police brutality, man,” Logan Williams said.
“It doesn’t appear that way, man,” the bystander responded.
“Oh yeah, you know what? You can twist it all you want. I know the truth!” the suspect shouted back.
“God does too,” the bystander said, chuckling afterward.
He was charged with attempted murder of law enforcement (second degree), attempted murder with a weapon (second degree), resisting arrest without violence, resisting with violence, aggravated fleeing to elude and leaving the scene of a crash.
His mother was also arrested and charged with resisting without violence.
Deputy Hackett and the civilian employee were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They were both listed in stable condition.
