Everything has its genesis from something else in our Universe, from the instantaneous point we call "Source" to the final jot of existence, so that the question, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" really begs the question --- "Where did the chicken or the egg, either one, come from?"

What mysterious force has resulted in their appearance, their profound ordering of substance within themselves, and the immense amounts of energy required to create and build that order, maintain it, and then, to release it, back to whence it has come?

So it is when we embark on a study of law, which leads to a study of religion, and then to the history of religion, that finally reveals so much about where concepts of "government" come from.

You have probably heard mention of "the Rule of Law", and wondered --- if you've been following along --- what's a Rule compared to a Law? What does "Rule of Law" mean?

Yes, as it turns out.

The use of Rules comes from early Church Orders, primarily Augustinian and Benedictine, that were established as the foundational principles and purposes of these Orders. These Rules were supposed to apply to all members of the Order, both priests and lay members, and provided a definition of purpose and agreement that all were expected to know and abide by.

The combination of the two concepts, "Rule" and "Law" in "Rule of Law" is therefore, as we have so often seen in other settings, oxymoronic.
