2 Minute History January 25th
January 25th has seen numerous significant events throughout history. In 1746, the Battle of Culloden marked the final confrontation of the Jacobite rising in Scotland, leading to the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie's forces and ending hopes for the restoration of the Stuart monarchy. The first Winter Olympics were held in Chamonix, France, in 1924, featuring athletes from 16 nations competing in various winter sports. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy delivered his inaugural address, famously urging Americans to engage in public service. The U.S. launched Operation Eagle Claw in 1980, an unsuccessful mission to rescue hostages in Iran, highlighting the complexities of U.S.-Iran relations. Finally, in 2011, the Egyptian Revolution began, leading to significant political changes and the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.
