Note: all tracks recorded under the names Academy 23 or UNIT are the property of DNA Records and protected by copyright, regardless of who wrote the works concerned. This is a track from the 10 track EP given away free with our 52nd album ‘Science & Sanity’. The Apostles recorded this in 1986 for an unreleased EP; it was abysmal (especially with my fake Paul Weller accent). Academy 23 recorded it in 1996; this was acceptable but the piece is not intended for guitars. Finally, in 2023, we manage to record the work as I intended it to sound.

This is the World Service of the BBC broadcasting a message across the sea,
transmitting on 5.975to anybody out there still alive.

The short wave relay station’s gone, terminating our broadcast to Ceylon;
transmission to Bonn, Budapest and Rome has ended due to interference at home.

The short wave 49 metre bandhas no life upon which to land;
our European service on 648has met a similar fate.

Transmission on this frequency has been affected recently:
a storm in the ionosphere has made reception difficult to hear.

Is anybody near us? Is anybody there?
Can anybody hear us transmitting through the air.
This is 5.975 – is anyone left alive?
