Episode 4 of Deck Profiles: BRS - SSP is about Pikachu ex.

Pikachu...if you know Pokemon, you know Pikachu. Pikachu ex came out in Surging Sparks, and since then, it hasn't gotten the testing it deserved. Probably one of the best designed cards for a format printed in a long time, this card has everything. This video will be about my takes on Pikachu ex.

Since starting this series, my anger regarding the failure of Pokemon TCG players to test and come up with lists to solve the "unplayability" of this format due to the prevalance of weak set up decks that can't compete with decks like Lugia, Charizard and Regidrago...has settled somewhat. So this will be less of a rant and lecture about this archetype and more of a explanation as to what Pokemon wanted to do with this archetype.

So, Pikachu ex is a very versatile card. It's a Tera Pokemon, so it can activate cards like Glass Trumpet and Area Zero Underdepths, it's a Lightning type, so it can be targeted by abilities like Tandem Unit (Miraidon ex), and it's ability prevents it from being one shot at full health. This card can fit in a lot of archetypes.

Pikachu thrives on decks that can close games quickly. It also thrives in decks that can set up board states that can close games quickly. So it's the best of both worlds. Pikachu can thrive in best of one events and best of three events, so testing it is fruitful nonetheless.

Pikachu hasn't been out that long, but even still, people should've jumped on it immediately. This shows that the community overall has become jaded by the long Sword and Shield format rife with decks like Mew VMAX and Lugia Vstar and just wants Sword and Shield out of the way before they start coming up with new decks.

Rotations will never be great until we prepare ahead of time for them, so this is my contribution to that by putting out some Pikachu ex lists I've been working on. I hope you like them, and I hope you continue to support my work.
