State, Local Officials Who Stand In The Way Of Mass Deportation Plan
The DOJ is threatening to criminally investigate and prosecute state and local officials who stand in the way of President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans.
The memo from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove also says that federal prosecutors who don’t prosecute those immigration cases will be immediately reported to the DOJ.
The memo that was sent out to the entire workforce says in part
“Federal law prohibits state and local actors from resisting, obstructing and otherwise failing to comply with lawful immigration-related commands and requests. The U.S. Attorney’s Offices and litigating components of the Department of Justice shall investigate incidents involving any such misconduct for potential prosecution.”
The memo says the department will go back to charging defendants with the most serious crime it can prove, rather than leaving the option up to a prosecutor – who often charges a lower-level offense.
The Mayors of Sanctuary Cities like Denver, and Chicago have said they would protect the illegal migrants in their cities.
