Reading of the 1535 Coverdale Bible - Day 21 of 365 (Exodus 9-11) Season 3 - "The Lord's Judgment on Egypt Continues: A Tale of Pestilence and Favor"

In tonight's reading, we find ourselves in the midst of Moses' conversations with Pharaoh, as the Lord continues to unleash His judgment upon the Egyptians.

Chapter 9: The Lord's Judgment on Egyptian Livestock

The Lord instructs Moses to tell Pharaoh that He will bring a severe pestilence upon Egypt's livestock. Horses, donkeys, camels, oxen, and sheep will all be affected. Pharaoh's refusal to let the Israelites go will lead to this dire consequence. Despite the warning, Pharaoh remains unfazed and continues to resist the Lord's requests.

Chapter 10: The Lord's Judgment on Egyptian Human Life

In this chapter, God tells Moses that He has hardened Pharaoh's heart and that of his servants, so that His signs and wonders may be clearly evident to the Israelites. He intends to show His greatness to the Egyptians and to future generations of the Israelites. As before, Pharaoh refuses to obey the Lord's commands, and the Israelites are forced to suffer the consequences of Pharaoh's stubborn resistance.

Chapter 11: Preparing for the Final Plague and Exile

The Lord reveals to Moses that He will soon visit another plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt. However, He promises that after this, Pharaoh will allow the Israelites to leave Egypt, even driving them out. The Lord instructs Moses to tell the Israelites to borrow valuable items from their Egyptian neighbors, as the Lord will give the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians before they depart. As Moses continues to negotiate with Pharaoh, he earns a level of respect and admiration from the Egyptians, including Pharaoh's servants and the general population.
